I am so excited to have historical romance author, Dienece Darling, joining me today.
Let’s start with The Fun Five:
Do you have any pets?
I had lots of pets as a kid, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish, rabbits, and birds, but I don’t own any now. My favourite pet was Squeaky a beautiful long haired black and white cat. She got her name because she’d come running to greet you, squeaking the whole way, begging to be picked up. She was one of the friendliest cats I’ve even seen.
What is your favourite mythical creature?
A Pegasus! I love their pretty wings, and their vibrant colours.
Where is your favourite place to write?
My comfy chair in my cosy little corner with my bookshelf at my elbow.
If you could only take three books with you on a deserted island, what would they be?
The Bible, because it doesn’t get old. A notebook and pen, so I can write (my stories drive me crazy if I leave them in my head), and lastly… you do realize this is a mean question, right? I love my books! Love to have them stacked up around me. Love to look at them. Read them. Ugh, it’s hard to pick. But if I have to pick, then the last book of the Nightengale Trilogy, Memoria. I haven’t read it yet, and I want to know how the series ends.
If you could only read one genre for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Historical Romance, hands down.
Such great answers! Now to the Questions about your writing!
For those who don’t know you, what types of books do you write?
I write to find love and faith in history, specifically historical romance in first person, usually set in England during the 18 and 19th Century.
Tell us a bit about your writing journey. When did you start writing?
Oh, there was a story when I was a little girl. I wrote it with crayon and bound the pages with wool (yarn). My local library allowed it to be on display in the kid’s section. I’d go in to check out my book and see if anyone else had checked it out. No one ever did, but I was still hooked after that.
How have you found the self-publishing journey?
More overwhelming than I expected. Being in charge of every aspect of the book from the cover, to the blurb, and deciding when it was ready to be published. And then… advertising! Advertising is the worst in my humble opinion. Being solely responsible for your book is a heavy challenge.
Can you share a bit about your writing routine?
Routine? Hm, I used to have one of those, and I need to do that again. Lately, I spend a lot of time plotting and networking and not so much writing.
What advice would you give to writers wanting to be published?
Hit submit.
Either to a competition that gives feedback, the editor for a manuscript assessment, to the friend who offered to read your book, or whatever scary thing you haven’t hit submit for.
Where can people find you on the internet?
Website. (Sign up to Dienece’s newsletter to get a free story!)
About Dienece:

Former Georgia Belle and missionary’s kid, Dienece Darling calls Australia home with her Aussie husband and two sons. As a teen, Dience would greet the dawn with a paperback in hand, but she constrains herself these days to the more respectable hour of midnight. But through all the changes of life, books have been her constant companions, and libraries one of her favorite destinations. Her first name is a variant spelling of Denise.
Dienece’s latest release:

When the heart longs for what it cannot have, toes aren’t safe in the ballroom.
Edith Howard has long mourned the loss of Clarence. He was more than the boy next door. He was her dearest friend until he left without word or warning. But when Clarence makes a surprise return the London season of 1763, the gentleman standing before her bears little resemblance to the boy she used to know. What happened to Clarence, and why is he back?
A chance encounter might be just the ticket Clarence needs to convince Edith he always has been and always will be hers. If only she wasn’t listening to those dangerous street preachers. Clarence doesn’t know how to save the lady he loves from believing the world will end on February 28th. Or, for that matter, how to show her all that’s in his heart.
What will it take for Edith to see the man Clarence is today? And dare she let him back into her life when she doesn’t know what drove him away the first time?
This clean, historical romance novelette is written in dual first person with faith content and has a happily-ever-after.
