Synopsis from Goodreads:
Would you save a life if you knew it would destroy another?
In the deeply divided world of Caldera, nothing is as it seems. Taken captive by a faceless enemy, Sephone Winter fights to reclaim her soul as her gift spirals out of control and the deadly poison coursing through her veins begins to exact its terrible vengeance.
Meanwhile, Dorian and Cass are forced into an uneasy alliance in order to find the woman they both love . . . a woman who has all but vanished from the face of the earth, along with the Reliquary. Finding her becomes impossible as the identity of their greatest adversary continues to elude them.
When Caldera’s past catches up with the trio’s future, Sephone, Dorian, and Cass are forced to make decisions that threaten everything and everyone they care about. Each of them is offered a chance to sacrifice their own happiness for the sake of the other—but will they take it? And what will it cost them in the end?
The Nightingale Trilogy is a fantasy transformation of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved 1843 tale The Nightingale, with echoes of the myths of Hades and Persephone.
My Thoughts:
5 stars.
This was a perfect conclusion to my favourite fantasy trilogy!
What a wild ride this was, I am barely breathing after reading that. I was on the edge of my seat, heart pounding from beginning to end!
Three months have past and immediately I want to know what has happened in three months! Thankfully for us, but not Sephone, we find out just what has been happening in those three months and it isn’t good. With Sephone kidnapped, Dorian and Cass form an uneasy alliance to work together to find her. I won’t say much more than this on the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything. Be prepared for epic battles and a stunning conclusion.
What you will get is a beautiful allegory. Lots of twists and turns. A shocking betrayal I never saw coming. A twist on one of my favourite characters that had my jaw dropping. Great world building and swoon worthy romance. Not to mention life-like characters that seep under your skin.
Sweet Sephone is a stand out female main character. She was hope and light in a dark world. Used, broken, betrayed, she still fought for what was right. But no matter how much light she had, she was not the light. No, even Sephone needed the True Light to save her.
I loved the introduction of the new character, Aleria. And I loved the role Spartan had to play and the gifts that he had.
Fischer’s writing is so beautiful, and she has this way of pulling all the emotions from you, tearing you apart before stitching you back together. I need to read this again, slower this time, taking time to savor its brilliance.
I believe this book will not disappoint. And even if you are a little disappointed because you were a fan of a certain character, you can go read Caligo. In fact, I recommend everyone go and read Caligo, the standalone sequel to this trilogy.
This is one fantasy trilogy not to be missed.
