Synopsis from Goodreads:

What if erasing the past cost more than you were willing to pay?

Having narrowly escaped their enemies, Sephone, Dorian, and Cass continue their search for the elusive Silvertongue, the only one with knowledge of the Reliquary’s whereabouts. But time is running out for Sephone, and with Dorian accused of high treason, the quest takes on a new urgency.

As secrets from each of their pasts drive a wedge between them, Sephone invests all her hopes in finding her homeland, Lethe—where her family may yet be alive. But nothing about Lethe is as she expects, and disappointment, betrayal, and danger await her at every turn.

As the truth about the Reliquary’s curse comes to light, the fragile bonds between the unlikely companions are tested like never before. Meanwhile, Dorian faces a terrible choice: to save the life of one who is beginning to mean more to him than the past he’s so desperate to forget, or to save his beloved Caldera from dangers outside and within.

My Thoughts:

5 stars.

Words cannot express how good this was. I read this late into the night and then couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about it!

Lumen picks up where Calor left off. We join our favourite band of characters as they hunt down the Reliquary.
Cass was his charming self, but we get to go a bit deeper and learn some new things about our favourite Lumen.
Dorian frustrated me to no end. Let’s just say he is blind to his own feelings. But I am team Dorian and there were some special moments I loved.
And then there is Seph. Poor Seph, she goes through so much in this book!
There are new characters introduced. There was one character I loved who was just so peaceful and I was so glad he was included. When you read it you will know what I mean.
There was also an Unexpected Foe pursuing our characters who was completely mysterious.
I loved how the Christian themes were emerging in this book, and I loved how Fischer handled it.

I had *all the feels* while reading this. I cried in places, raged in others, was shocked, and left smiling during sweet moments between my favourite characters.
I held my breath so many times while reading this. I really was put through the emotional wringer!
This is definitely not a cosy read! (But was clean.)

We are left on a cliffhanger ending so you might want to have Memoria ready to go straight after reading!

I loved this second instalment of The Nightingale trilogy. This is one of my favourite fantasy series and I highly recommend it.
