Genre/Series: Fantasy/ The Medoran Chronicles (Book 2)

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Life is full of crossroads, Alex. Full of choices.”

Returning for a second year at Akarnae Academy with her gifted friends, Alexandra Jennings steps back through a doorway into Medora, the fantasy world that is full of impossibilities.

Despite the magical wonder of Medora, Alex’s life remains threatened by Aven Dalmarta, the banished prince from the Lost City of Meya who is out for her blood.

To protect the Medorans from Aven’s quest to reclaim his birthright, Alex and her friends seek out the Meyarin city and what remains of its ancient race.

Not sure who—or perhaps what—she is anymore, all Alex knows is that if she fails to keep Aven from reaching Meya, the lives of countless Medorans will be in danger. Can she protect them, or will all be lost?

My Thoughts:

4 stars.

I enjoyed this second installment of the Medoran Chronicles. We are back with Alex for a second year at Akarnae. If Alex thought she would get a quieter and less adventurous year than the previous one, she is mistaken. Aven is still hunting her down – he is so menacing and cold, I would not want him as my enemy! And Alex is still learning just what she is capable of. Poor Alex is thrown into so many situations she does not want to be in! I like how she handles things with sass and humour.
There where some situations where I was thinking ‘how is this allowed to happen?’ *cough* SAS camping trip *cough*, or I wondered how Alex was capable of doing certain things, but Noni eventually explains the how and why and I was happy with the explanation.
One disappointing thing was that the library featured less in this compared to book one.

I love the friendship aspect of this book. I love how the two boys she is friends with aren’t romantically interested in Alex and their friendships are remaining that way. We also got to know D.C better in this book and I liked her character much better in this installment.

My favourite parts of this book were all the sweet scenes between Alex and Kaiden. I want more scenes with him!
Another thing I loved about this is the Australian-ness of it. I know this is a fantasy, but Alex just acted so Australian and I absolutely loved it.

And then there is the ending. The ending will make you want to go and read book three straight away so you might want to have it on hand if possible.

Overall, Raelia was a fun and exciting fantasy read that can be enjoyed by all teens and adults. The content is clean with some violence, but nothing too graphic. The A-word was said twice.
