Synopsis from Goodreads:
What if you could edit memories with a single touch?
The world-that-was is gone, lost to everything except living memory . . . but remembering comes at a terrible price. Sixty-two years after the apocalypse, a new society has emerged from the ashes of the old world where highly valued memories are traded and nostalgia is worth dying—and even killing—for.
Enslaved by a cruel master, Sephone Winter is forced to use her rare ability to manipulate memories to numb the darkest secrets of the ruling aristocracy.
Then Lord Adamo appears, speaking of a powerful relic capable of permanently erasing memories and recovering Sephone’s own lost childhood. But not everything about the young lord is as it seems, and soon Sephone must choose between helping Lord Adamo forget his past or journeying deep into the land of Lethe, where the truth about who she really is might finally be revealed . . . and a long desired future restored.
My Thoughts:
5 stars.
This is my new favourite fantasy novel! It gave me *all the feels!*
I read the bulk of this in a few days because I could hardly put it down, and only did so because life forced me!
Fischer has done a brilliant job bringing this fantasy world to life. She writes so well. There were lots of heart stopping moments, so many unexpected twists, and so many complicated feelings.
I loved the whole cast of characters (Except the villains! Which there are plenty of.). They were so well rounded and life like. They were complicated, with their faults, and I am excited to see how they will grow.
I cannot talk about characters without mentioning Lady Jewel. She was one of my favourites. She is a wolf, and if you love animals you will love her. I love that she was a character in this novel, it made it that much more brilliant!
Sephone lives in a dark world, and due to her gift, spends her time in dark minds. I was a bit worried at first that this was going to be a bit too dark for me, but thankfully, it didn’t go there. None of the horrors are discussed in too much detail, which is the way I like it!
Although this book is somewhat dark, it still points out that hope is worth clinging to, even in times of darkness and heart wrenching pain. Along with hope, it is about truth and love, and figuring out what is really worth fighting for.
The book was clean with no spice or swear words. There is some violence, but nothing too graphic.
Even though this is clean I would recommend it for those at least 17 plus. There is a womanising character who gets drunk a lot, though his escapades aren’t detailed. It was handled really well, and he became one of the characters I loved!
A must read for fans of fantasy, especially if you like it on the cleaner side. I have ordered book two straight away and cannot wait to read it.
